Well, I am three weeks out from my half-marathon. I am really excited to get it over with. I am wondering why I signed up for this race, which I usually do no matter what the race distance is. I am really looking forward to getting back to a focus on strength training and getting my body back.
That's right, I don't enjoy the effects of all of this steady state cardio. I am not fitting into my jeans anymore. I wouldn't say I gained fat but my body is just different. It is softer and my bottom half is not able to squeeze into the same pants.
There are days where I really need to rest. After a 9 mile run, if I continue to go about my normal life, I will acquire hip pain or knee pain. Rest is so important. This is different than my strength training where I can split up the body parts each day and train hard 4+ days per week.
I have a few training plans I would like to try out after the half marathon. I will give updates and reviews on these plans. Should be fun to whip my body back into the shape I usually try to keep.
I do plan on giving up all cardio for 30 days and focus on building muscle.
For now, I have a 10 mile run this weekend. I don't feel ready for a 10 mile run. I don't feel ready for a 3 mile run. But I am excited to be able to say that I did it. I will be better equipped to train my running clients and help them prepare for their own races. I will have more than book knowledge and know I push my fitness level to places I never thought I could. I am grateful for this time, but I am just ready for it to be over.
